PRARAMBH 2026 Awareness Campaign
On March 20, 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman officially launched PRARAMBH 2026. It isn't just another awareness campaign; it is the bridge to the brand-new Income-tax Act, 2025, which goes live on April 1, 2026.
1. From "Catch Me If You Can" to "Partnership"
The core philosophy of PRARAMBH is a shift from an adversarial relationship to one of trust. The government has simplified the legal framework, cutting the Act from 800+ sections down to 536. The message is clear: "Simpler laws mean fewer excuses for mistakes."
2. Meet your new Assistant: 'Kar Saathi'
Part of this campaign is the rollout of Website 2.0 and Kar Saathi, an AI-enabled chatbot.
- Imagine having a 24/7 assistant that can answer queries about the new re-numbered forms (did you know Form 16 is now Form 130?) in 12 different languages.
- For us professionals, it’s a tool to get quick clarifications on procedural changes without digging through manual gazettes for hours.
3. The "Tax Year" Revolution
Gone are the days of explaining the difference between "Financial Year" and "Assessment Year" to frustrated clients. Under the 2025 Act, we move to a unified "Tax Year."
Practical Tip: Starting April 1, 2026, we simply refer to the period from April to March as the Tax Year. It’s a small linguistic change that removes a massive mental hurdle for the common taxpayer.
4. More "Carrot," Less "Stick"
PRARAMBH highlights a major relief for the middle class: Tax-free income up to ₹12 lakh (under the default regime, after rebates and deductions).
- For Professionals: We need to help clients pivot. The campaign emphasises that the new regime is now the "permanent" default.
- For Accountants: Check the new perquisite valuations! Allowances like children’s education and hostel expenditure have finally been adjusted for 2026 inflation rates.
What should you do right now?
The transition on April 1st won't be a "soft launch." It is a hard reset. Don't wait for the first "Tax Year" to end to learn the rules:
- Familiarise yourself with renumbered forms (e.g., Form 121 for 15G/H).
- Explore Income Tax Website 2.0 before the July filing rush.
PRARAMBH 2026 is an invitation to clean the slate. As professionals, our job is now "transition management." Let’s help our clients move from the confusion of 1961 to the clarity of 2026.
